Samsung Galaxy Tab price may go down to $200-$400 for the US

Samsung got a late start when it comes to tablets and this might turn out to cost them a lot, as tabs are getting more and more popular, both in the US and in Europe. For the moment, the models that have had considerable success are the cheaper ones or, on the contrary, the slicker, better and obviously more expensive ones like the iPad (which just received the iOS 4.2 update). Still, the Samsung Galaxy tab is somewhere in-between – not cheap and not too original either, except for the fact that it’s the only Android powered device of the kind.

Although it looks cool (despite a bit too similar to the iPad), and has decent specs, which you can check out here, the Galaxy has managed to raise a lot of critics, mostly due to its amazingly high price, around $1000. Maybe as a reaction to the unfavorable reviews, the folks over at Samsung have announced, through two different executives, that prices will go down soon. Rumor has it that after the carrier subsides will make their effect, prices will be reduced significantly. The two sources that have made this public, present different figures for the prices, one claiming it will be around $200 – $300 in the US, while Korea Times reports the Galaxy tablet will be available for $300 to $400.

In any case scenario, both these prices are reasonable ones, more appropriate for what Samsung should be trying to do, at least until the tab makes a name for itself. Unfortunately, for those who don’t want to tie their hands with a carrier contract and want the tablet carrier-free, chances are the prices won’t go down, or if they do the amount will be insignificant.
