Elementary school in San Bruno evacuated Thursday after strong gas odor smelled and leak found

Thursday, Portola Elementary school in San Bruno, California was evacuated after a strong natural gas odor was reported; Portola Elementary school is located approximately a mile from last week’s natural gas explosion and fire.

Parents reported smelling the gas odor at 8:35 am Thursday morning. Officials reported a small leak was found at the elementary school, and 270 students were.

Last week’s explosion and fire killed at four people, and three are still missing. 37 homes were destroyed.

Tuesday, some homeowners in San Bruno, California were allowed to return to their homes after last week’s explosion in the area; PG&E has offered an initial $50,000 to homeowners in the area and they are not expected to repay that money, nor will it remove them from any lawsuit that may take place in the future, according to ABC News. PG&E has also given $3 million to the city of San Bruno to help with costs of the explosion. For more on this story, click here.
